Recipe category - Dinner/Entree
Prep time - 15 minutes
Cook time - 4 to 8 hours
Total time - 4 hrs 15 mins to 8 hours 15 minutes
Ingredients
1 pound ground beef
1 medium onion, diced
1 cup chicken broth
15 oz canned diced tomatoes
16 oz red kidney beans, drained and rinsed
8 oz tomato sauce
2 tablespoons tomato paste
Oil
1 teaspoon Salt
1 teaspoon Pepper
2 tablespoons chili powder
2 tablespoons cumin
1 tablespoon smoked paprika
1 tablespoon garlic powder
2 tablespoons sugar
Recipe Instructions
Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a large pot over medium high heat, once oil is shimmering, add ground beef in a flat layer and brown on one side.
While the ground beef browns, combine all seasonings and sugar in a small bowl.
Once browned, flip over and begin to break the ground beef apart. Cook until no pink remains then remove ground beef from the pot.
Add diced onions, seasonings and sugar then scrape the bottom of the pot to remove any brown bits.
Cook onions until softened, lowering heat if necessary to prevent burning.
Add beef, onions, chicken broth, kidney beans, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce and tomato paste into the crock pot and stir to combine.
Cook on high for 4 hours or on low for 7 hours. Serve warm and enjoy! Don't forget to leave a rating below!
Notes
If you’re in a time crunch, during step 6 add all of the ingredients to the pot and simmer on the stove for 30 minutes.
For some spice, add hot sauce either to each individual serving or to the whole pot. Taste as add to ensure the best flavor for you.
This recipe can be served in a bowl, over hotdogs or on tortilla chips for nachos.
